The Japanese Daruma Doll is a symbol of encouragement as it always stands back up when pushed down. To make a wish or a promise, you fill in one eye and leave the other eye blank until the promise or wish is fulfilled.

Amabie アマビエ is a Japanese folkloric mermaid-like creature that appears out of the sea to help in times of epidemic or harvest. The last depiction of the Amabie was a sketch from a sighting in the 1800s. It is said to have three legs, long hair, a pointy mouth like a beak and scales all over. “Draw a picture of me and disease will go away.”
